Debate Team Is Victorious at Princeton University Tournament

Freshmen Sarah Ryan was named tournament champion, Elyssa Alfieri reached the top four, and Ella Eisinger was the tournament’s top speaker in the novice division of the Princeton University Debate Tournament held November 30-December 2. In this prestigious event, Harrison had five students of the 102 debater novice field who reached the double octofinal or top 32 round.

Both Sarah and Elyssa had 5-1 records in the preliminary rounds and were eventually paired in the semifinal round. Since Sarah was the higher seed, she advanced to the final round where she won a 3-0 decision.

Freshmen Bea Almeida and Kathryn Kenny both reached the double octofinal round or top 32 and Bea was named the tournament’s 5th place novice speaker.

In the varsity division, junior Danny DeBois continued his amazing season by posting a 5-1 record in the preliminary rounds and reaching the quarterfinals (Top 8) to place 5th overall. Danny was named the tournament’s 3rd place varsity speaker. Senior Patty-Jane Geller also reached elimination rounds, placing in the top 35 of the 128 competitors from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Florida.
