HHS Varsity Winter Sports Off To A Strong Start



Many of the Harrison High School Varsity teams have begun their Winter season of play.  The Boys Varsity Swimming Team kicked off the season on Nov. 30 at the Westchester County Officials Relay Carnival at White Plains High School.

The Huskies finished 4th out of 12 teams and finished in first place in two of the Relays.  The Medley Relay of Ryan Pertak, Alex Miller, Steven Kwon and Charlie Rube finished first as did the Breaststroke Relay of Ryan Pertak, Steven Kwon, Alex Miller and Kevin Pico.  The Freestyle Relay of Noah Vass, Adrian Gollub-Messiah, Andrew Sherwood, and Thomas McAdam finished in third place.  The above photo is the team with their medals.

The Varsity Wrestling team began their season with an impressive third place finish at the Bernie Miller Duals at Rye High School this past weekend.  The team went 4-1, losing the opening to Fordham Prep 3-42 but then posting impressive wins over Westlake (78-6), Beacon (47-42), Lakeland/Panas (69-15) and Stepinac (57-24).  The Huskies had five individual Weight Class Champions who all finished 5-0.  They are:

Vito DeFonce – 99 lbs.
Tyler Joseph – 120 lbs.
Dennis Brecani – 152 lbs.
Zach Finn – 182 lbs.
Mike Rozell – 220 lbs.

Mark Rigano (145 lbs.) and Val McCoy (113 lbs.) each finished 4-1.

The Rye Town/Harrison Boys Varsity Hockey team went undefeated in the White Plains Guy Mathews Thanksgiving Invitational Tournament.  The Titans won their first game against Monroe Woodbury 8-3 with goals by Max Chalfin (2), Jack Shapiro (2), Matthew Milone, Kieran Storch, Christian Pizzutello, and Matt Hlushko.  The Titans beat New Rochelle by a score of 4-3 in the next game with three outstanding goals by Jack Shapiro – the last coming with only 1:23 remaining in the game to secure the victory.  Max Chalfin also scored.

In their final game, the Titans beat Lakeland 7-4.  Max Chalfin had 2 goals and 1 assist in the victory along with Christian Pizzutelo (1 goal, 1 assist), Jake Repaci (1 goal and 1 assist), Jack Shapiro (1 goal, 2 assists) and goals by Joey Harrison and Sam Smith.  Evan Ketchabaw supported with three assists as did Matt Milone with 2 assists.  The Titans will play their home opener on Monday, December 11 at Playland at 7:40. Come out and support the team and wear white to create “White Out” conditions.

Boys Varsity Bowling also launched their Winter season with two opening wins – one against White Plains 5-2 and Ardsley 7-0.  Robert Kalten lead the team against Ardsley with an impressive 621 series.

Congratulations to the Harrison High School Varsity Cheerleading team who punched their ticket to the UCA Nationals in Orlando, Florida in February with 4th place finish at the UCA Regionals.
