Congratulations to Robert Blue, Ian Santiago, and Justin Altamuro who represented Harrison High School at the New York State Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Center on Staten Island on Saturday, March 3rd

Robert Blue placed 2nd and Ian Santiago placed 5th in the Triple Jump inALL of New York State. Of ALL New York schools- public/private, All Classifications, there were only three school with Boys individual medalists in the same event.

Senior Robert Blue was the 1st place finisher in the Triple Jump at the State Qualifying meet with a new school record.  Robert also qualified for the State Championships in the Long Jump event with a 2nd place finish.

Robert's 2nd place finish at the NYS Championship in the Triple Jump was the highest place of any Section 1 Male Athlete.  His Triple Jump distance at the State Meet ranks as the 7th best performance at the NYS Championship in the last 10 years and his performance is the #4 all-time high school performance in the Triple Jump in the history of the Ocean Breeze facility. 

By medaling, Robert has qualified for the National Championship Triple Jump at the New Balance Indoor Natioanls scheduled for Sunday, March 11 at the NYC Armory beginning at 10am.  In this particular section of the Triple Jump, high school athletes can earn All American status with a Top 8 finish.

Senior Ian Santiago qualified for the NYS Championships with his 2nd place finish in the Triple Jump at the State Qualifying meet. Ian was seeded 13th at the NYS meet and finished in 5th.  During the season, there were over 1,350 boys who competed in the Triple Jump during the 2017-18 season and Harrison had two in the top five. With his 5th place finish, Ian qualified for the Emerging Elite Triple Jump at the New Balance Indoor Nationals scheduled for Friday, March 9th at the NYC Armory at 6pm. 

Ian also finished in the 5th place for the Long Jump at the State Qualifier, but did not meet standards in that event.

Junior Justin Altamuro was the third Husky who competed for Harrison at the State meet in the Weight Throw event.

The Harrison Husky Boys Track and Field team was the runner-up at the Section 1 Class B Championships.  Robert Blue was the Long Jump and Triple Jump Sectional Champion and Justin Altamuro was the Weight Throw Sectional Champion.  Justin was also the silver medalist in the Shot Put.  Ian Santiago was the Sectional Silver medalist in the Triple Jump and the Bronze Medalist in the Long Jump.

Harrison had the Top 3 finishes in Section 1 in the Triple Jump.  Junior Dylan Fitzgerald finished in third place and was a Finalist at the State Qualifier.

For the Girls Track and Field team, junior Kirsi Rajagopal was the Bronze medalist at the Section 1 Championship in the 1500m event and finished in 5th place at the State Qualifier. She also set a New School Record in that event. Ciara Gougherty was a Finalist at the State Qualifying meet.
