Harrison High School Class of 2019 Graduation
Harrison High School Principal Kimberly Beukema welcomed family and friends to the Class of 2019 Graduation ceremony and acknowledged the faculty and staff at Preston, Parsons, Purchase and Harrison Avenue Elementary Schools, LMK Middle School and Harrison High School for their commitment to the graduates, recognizing graduation as a culmination of the students' experience in Harrison schools which started in kindergarten. Ms. Beukema shared a story about creating conditions to “grow and thrive” and challenged the students to step outside of the shadows and create the conditions in the world where they will flourish.
Superintendent of Schools, Louis Wool, shared the school district’s two goals for the Class of 2019 when they entered Kindergarten: 1) to uncover their true selves; and 2) to notice and appreciate each other; the Class of 2019 achieved these goals. Dr. Wool reminded graduates that their inherent worth is limitless and challenged them to use what they have learned in Harrison to become their greatest selves. School Board Vice President Lindy Wolverton also addressed and congratulated the graduates.
Graduating members of the High School Chorus performed Have a Little Help From My Friends and students Eli Lapkin and Rachel Schmaier spoke. Eli shared two stories with his fellow graduates, reminding them that preparation is a virtue and the hard work they have done at Harrison High School has prepared them for success – and like the character in his story who prepared in advance for the impending storm, the members of the HHS Class of 2019 will be ready to “sleep” because they are ready to take on any challenge they face. Rachel shared her perception of Harrison High School as their “tiny permanent,” a finite experience that has lasting effect on your life, acknowledging that while they will miss Harrison High School, their high school experiences will always be a part of who they are.
Congratulations to the Harrison High School Class of 2019 in a ceremony held at SUNY Purchase College on Wednesday, June 26th. We wish you the best in your future endeavors and remember - you will always be a Harrison Husky!!!!
