The Harrison Central School District is excited to welcome Thomas Lehman to Harrison’s leadership team as the Assistant Director of Physical Education, Health & Athletics.
For the past fourteen years, Mr. Lehman has held a number of leadership roles at Long Island City High School in Queens, New York. For several years, he taught physical education classes, where he also developed a personal training curriculum and sports education curriculum model for team sports, and integrated social-emotional learning in physical education classes for high school students. Mr. Lehman also served as a cooperating teacher to host student teachers in his classroom and served as a field supervisor for the school’s Physical Activity Teenage Health (PATH) program.
For five years, Mr. Lehman served as a Dean of Students at Long Island City High School, which included providing school-based leadership to ensure student safety and leading professional development for teachers on classroom management. Most recently, he served as an Assistant Principal for Administration and Security, which included overseeing school safety and developing systems to monitor student progress and promote parent involvement in school initiatives.
Throughout his time at Long Island City High School, Mr. Lehman held a number of successful coaching roles, including eleven combined years as the head varsity and junior varsity baseball coach, thirteen combined years as the head varsity and junior varsity girls’ volleyball coach, and seven combined years as the assistant and head varsity girls’ basketball coach.
Mr. Lehman holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physical Education from Queens College, where he also received the Margaret K. Franco Award in Teaching. He also completed graduate course work and earned an advanced certificate in school leadership from the College of Saint Rose.
