Harrison Elementary Schools Raise Money For Hoops for Hearts

The four Harrison Elementary Schools have once again been substantial donors for the American Heart Association’s event “Hoops For Hearts”.

The nationwide event tagged “We Jump, We Shoot, We Saved” encourages students to have family members and friends donate money to the American Heart Association.  Many students are proud to donate their own money. The students participate in basketball stations and activities during their physical education classes.

"The students work hard the day of the event in honor of and in memory of those they know who have had things such as heart attacks, strokes, holes in their heart, and many other problems with their hearts," said Harrison Avenue Physical Education teacher Rita Beardsley. "Children also learn the benefits of exercise and how and why they should keep their hearts healthy and stay away from sodium and things like tobacco and alcohol."

The Harrison Elementary Schools have been participating in this event for many years.  This year, the four schools combined to raise over $35,000 for this wonderful cause.
