HHS Honored BY NCTE for Superior Writing and Writers Among Us (Video)


Harrison Sakai of Harrison High School received the Certificate of Superior Writing from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Achievement Awards in Writing competition.

Sakai was nominated by his Creative Writing III teacher Kimberly Grogan for his outstanding work in her class.  He was asked to submit two pieces of writing, one centered around this year’s theme “Changing The Narrative” and another that showcased his best writing. Students who participate in many of the writing and journalism classes and extracurricular publications such as the literary magazine Imagine and the HHS school Newspaper Husky Herald were honored in the Annual Writers Among US celebration.

Editors-In-Chief Brianna Jackman and Giselle Bravo-Brown spoke on behalf of the mission and style of the literary magazine “Imagine” and how entries were selected. To read this year's 2018 Imagine Literary Magazine, click here.

Editors-In Chief Anne-Marie Dillon and Jack Roche spoke about journalism today and the Husky Herald publication. Husky Herald was recognized this year by the American Scholastic Press Association and received the organization's First Place Award. In addition, Anne-Marie Dillon received Crown Medal Honors from Columbia Scholastic Press.  Anne-Marie will be attending Columbia University this fall.  To get a glimpse of Harrison's award-winning newspaper the Husky Herald, please click here.
