Harrison High School Varsity and JV Scores Through September 12

Before classes had even begun, many of Harrison’s Varsity and Junior Varsity teams were on the field to showcase their talents and school spirit.

The Varsity Girls Soccer team is off to a stellar start with commanding performances against Westlake and Beacon High Schools.  Against Westlake, Caitlin Alcoba scored a hat trick, netting three goals and Erin Nelson and Paige Lipman each adding a goal to the total.  In the matchup against Beacon, Erin Nelson scored two goals with Alcoba adding the insurance goal.  Cara Traficante and Kayla Hymowitz were instrumental with assists and senior Kate Ryan was dominating in goal with nine saves. The team played perennial powerhouses Mamaroneck and John Jay EF with grit and determination, losing by a lone goal but building up experience for later in the season.

The Varsity Boys soccer team has been impressive in their first four games as well.  Goalie Noah Bender has provided impressive saves, with seven outstanding saves in the 0-0 tie against.  Kevin Aguirre, Gabe Peierra and Mark Hlusko have contributed powerful offense to the team.

Senior Robert Donohue was honored with the Chris Mello Award at the annual Rye-Harrison game.  The award is giving to a deserving student-athlete from both Rye High School and Harrison High School in memory of 1994 Rye High School graduate Christopher Mello who died in the tragedies of September 11, 2001. While the outcome of the annual rivalry football game was not what the team had hoped for, the Huskies are excited to play in their home opener on Friday, September 16th under the lights in McGillicuddy Stadium against Beacon.
