Fall Varsity Season Winds Down and Playoffs Gear Up – (UPDATE and Weekly Scores)

 

 

As the leaves begin to turn colors, the Harrison High School Fall Varsity athletes are finishing their regular seasons and beginning to look ahead to post-season play.  The Harrison Football Huskies were the 13th seed in the Section 1 tournament and played #4 seed John Jay in the qualifying round at John Jay High School on Saturday, October 15th at 3pm.  The Huskies were looking for an upset and played tough but a Cinderella outcome was not to be.  The Huskies fell to John Jay Cross River 31-12.  Both touchdowns were scored by Austin Evans.

The Girls Varsity Tennis team has two opportunities to compete in post season play.  Deana Giambo will be playing for the Conference Championships and Jessica and Sydney Saviano will be playing for the Conference Doubles Championships on Monday, October 17th at 4pm at Harrison High School. Come out and support these terrific athletes.  Individual Girls Tennis Conference play began on Friday, October 14th at John Jay Cross River , with Sectionals and States to follow.  As a result of their outstanding play this year (as well as last), the Girls Varsity Tennis team has qualified nine individuals for Conference play.  Their results are:
Singles
Deana Giambo
- won Quarterfinals against Walter Panas 6-0, 6-0 and won the Semifinals against #2 seed Andie Shapiro of Byram Hills 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the finals.

Doubles
Jessica Saviano and Sydney Saviano - won the first round 6-2,6-0, won the quarterfinals 6-0, 6-1 and beat the #3 seeds from Rye 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals.
Elisa Pettinato and Sarina Iraj - won the first round 6-0, 6-2 but lost a Super tiebreaker in the Quarters to John Jay 1-6, 6-2, 10-7,  Advanced to the back draw where they lost in another heartbreaking tiebreaker to Byram 
Lauren Nielsen and Lindsay Amann - won their opening round but lost to John Jay 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 in the next round.
Jessica Hart and Juliana Sica - won their opening round but also lost to John Jay 6-1, 6-3 in the next round.

The Girls Varsity Tennis team will then reconvene for the 3/4 Girls Team Tennis Championship.  In a new format, the Girls Tennis team will take on John Jay Cross River for the quarterfinals at Harrison High School on Monday, October 24th at 3pm.
