Many of Harrison’s Fall Varsity programs will begin their Section 1 playoff push this week and weekend. The Boys Varsity Soccer team, which was the #6 seed, hosted #11 Keio on Thursday, October 20 at 4:30pm on McGillicuddy Field for the first round of the Section 1 playoffs. The Huskies lost in their bid to advance to the next round with a 4-0 loss to Keio. The Boys unfortunately lost their bid for Conference Champions with a 3-1 loss against Byram Hills to close out the season. Gabe Ferriera scored Harrison’s lone goal on an assist by Kevin Aguirre.
The Girls Varsity Soccer team was the #11 seed in the Sectional tournament and travelled to #6 Pearl River on Saturday, October 22. Unfortunately, the season came to a close with a 3-0 loss to Pearl River. The Girls Varsity Soccer team finished the season as Conference II League D Co-Champions. The girls snatched a piece of the Conference pie with a 2-1 win over Ardsley in the final game of the season. Caitlin Alcoba scored both goals on assists by Shannon Nelson and Cara Trifacante. Senior Kate Ryan was outstanding in goal with seven saves. Senior Erin Nelson etched her name in the school record books with her 26th goal, which happened to be in Overtime against Byram Hills in the previous game.
In other playoff action, the HHS Girls Swimming Team competed at Divisionals held at Rockland Community College on Saturday, October 22 at 9am where they finished 7th out 9 teams, and will travel to Felix Festa Middle School for Sectionals on Wednesday, November 2 at 4:30pm. The #10 seed HHS Girls Field Hockey team travelled on Saturday to #7 Pelham to play their first round match-up under the lights at 8pm at Pelham High School. The Field Hockey team lost 3-0 in this playoff action.
HHS Girls Tennis Conference Doubles Champions Jessica and Sydney Saviano and Conference runner-up Deanna Giambo began Sectional competition on Thursday, October 20 at 3pm at Harrison High School -who will once again host this prestigious event. The Savianos won their first round 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the Quarterfinals and Giambo also will advance to the Quarters with her first round 6-1, 6-1 win. In the quarterfinals held on Saturday, October 22 at Solaris in Hawthorne, New York, both fell to their opponents - Giambo 6-1, 6-2 and the Savianos 6-1, 6-4. HHS Varsity Football travelled to Walter Panas High School on Friday evening where they won 14-7. They finished their season at home against Tappan Zee with a thrilling 35-34 overtime victory.
The Girls Volleyball team won their play-in playoff game against Lakeland 3-1. Unfortunately, that victory paired them against the #1 seed in the Section Walter Panas where they finished their season with a 3-0 loss.
The HHS Girls Tennis Team finished their undefeated season with a run to the finals in the first ever Section 1 Team Tennis Championships. The Girls team was runner-up to Ursuline in the final, falling 4-2 to end their season.
