Harrison High School Wrestlers Finish Strong at Sectionals

 

 

As the winter season draws to a close for many of the Harrison High School Varsity teams, the Wrestling team notched outstanding showings at the Sectional tournament.

The New York State Section 1 Division 1 Wrestling Championships were held on February 11 at Arlington High School - where the two-day event was combined in anticipation of Sunday’s weather, and three Huskies earned All-Section Honors.

Senior Jay Martins finished in third place in the 126 lbs. weight class.  The top two wrestlers in each weight class advance to the New York State Championships and Jay is eligible for a Wild Card entry into the tournament, to be determined this week.  Jay ends his high school career with 122 career wins, placing him fourth on the All-Time Husky win list.  Jay was also a Westchester County Champion.

Senior Rob Donohue finished on the podium in sixth place in the 195 lbs. class.  Rob was a Westchester County Finalist and finished his high school career with 78 career wins.

Eighth grader Tyler Joseph finished in fifth place in the 99 lbs. division. With four more years of eligibility, Tyler already has amassed 69 career wins.

The Huskies had eight individuals qualify for the competition by their outstanding showing at the qualifying event.  They are:

Jay Martins – (who finished 1st in his weight class at the Qualifier)
Rob Donohue (who finished 1st in his weight class at the Qualifier)
Tyler Joseph – (who finished 2nd in his weight class at the Qualifier)
Dennis Brecani (who finished 2nd  in his weight class at the Qualifier)
Mike Rozell – (who finished 4th in his weight class at the Qualifier)
Zach Finn – (who finished 4th  in his weight class at the Qualifier)
Anthony Oppedisano – (who finished 4th  in his weight class at the Qualifier)
Andrew Hollander – (who finished 4th  in his weight class at the Qualifier)
