Dear
Parents/Guardians:
Under the Sex Offender Registration Act (Megan’s
Law), the Harrison Central School District
periodically receives notification from the Harrison
Police Department about sex offenders who are
residing within the school district. Some of these
sex offenders are described as “those individuals
who pose a high risk for repeat offense and a threat
to public safety exists.” Our concern is that
all parents have the most updated information
regarding these individuals who reside here.
You
may obtain further information by contacting the New
York State Sex Offenders Registry at 1-800-262-3257.
Information can also be accessed directly on-line
at:
http://criminaljustice.state.ny.us/nsor/index.htm.
The
sobering reality of having these individuals within
our community underscores the importance of taking
time to speak with your children about contacts with
strangers, taking appropriate safety measures, and
encouraging them to speak with you about situations
that make them feel uncomfortable. While
making children aware of these potential dangers, it
is important to help them to maintain a feeling of
safety and comfort. We suggest you share this
information in a calm and deliberate manner.
Our
district, in partnership with our police department,
continues to work to insure the safety of your
children. If you would like more information on
Megan’s Law, you can access a website called,
“Parents for Megan’s Law” at
www.parentsformeganslaw.com.
The most important measure that you can take to
insure the well being of your children is to insure
their appropriate supervision.
Sincerely,
Louis N. Wool
