Spring 2026 NYSED Testing Letter

 Dear Families:

In the coming weeks, students in grades 3-8 will participate in the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) assessments.  The English Language Arts and Mathematics assessments will take place over two consecutive days, while the Science examination will take place on one day.  Each exam includes a suggested time allotment that varies according to grade level and subject area. Students are not timed and may take as much time as they need to complete the assessments.  

This year, all students in grades 3 - 8 will be taking the New York State Assessments on the computer. In preparation, students have been practicing with these tools so they are familiar with the format and features prior to the assessments. 

It is important to remember that these assessments represent only one measure of student learning.  As always, we encourage students to do their best work and demonstrate what they have learned. 

You can help your child feel prepared on testing days by ensuring they:

• Get a full night's sleep;
• Pick out clothes to wear the night before;
• Eat breakfast before coming to school;
• Arrive to school on time;
• Think positively and be confident!
