Mandated Reporting
All certificated employees (i.e., teachers, guidance counselors, psychologists, social workers, teaching assistants, nurses, administrators, coaches) who work in public schools are mandated reporters, which means that they are required by law to report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect to Child Protective Services.
| Teachers, School Counselors, Psychologists, Coaches, Teaching Assistants, Nurses, Administrators: Last year New York State law required that all mandated reporters complete an updated mandated reporter workshop by April 1, 2025. New York State recently announced that mandated reporters must complete a second updated mandated reporter workshop that includes guidance on identifying abuse or neglect of a child who has intellectual or developmental disabilities. The law requires that every mandated reporter, including those who have previously undergone mandated reporter training, must complete the updated curriculum by November 17, 2026.
