Rapid Dismissal Drill November 24 & 25

The Harrison Central School District will be conducting a rapid dismissal drill prior to the Thanksgiving break.  So that both Husky and Pride students can participate in this important safety drill, the rapid dismissal drill will occur on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, and on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. As has occurred in the past, Wednesday, November 25, the day prior to Thanksgiving, is scheduled as a half day of school

These safety drills are required by New York State and provide an opportunity for students, staff, and parents to practice the procedures associated with a rapid dismissal, which may be necessary in event of inclement weather or due to the evacuation of a school.  The Harrison Police Department partners with the District to conduct the drills, so please be aware that you may see police officers on campus during these days.

Please note the following general guidelines for rapid dismissal drills:

  1. On the day of the rapid dismissal drill for your child, an automated message will be sent to all phone numbers associated with each child to test our messaging system and to ensure that the phone numbers on file for each child are valid and working numbers.

  2. During a rapid dismissal, the District does not send elementary students (grades K-5) home on the bus because we cannot be assured that a parent or guardian will be present to greet them.  Therefore, there will be no bus transportation provided for K-5 students on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, or Wednesday, November 25, 2020.

  3. Be sure that your child’s emergency contact information is current.  No child will be released to any individual who is not listed on your child’s emergency contact list.  You may contact the main office of your child’s school to update emergency contact information, but changes to the emergency contact list will not be made on the days of the drill.

  4. To ensure the safe pick up of each student by a parent/guardian or designated adult, adults picking up a K-5 student, including parents/guardians, will be required to show photo identification, wear a face covering, and socially distance while on school property

  5. Since the drill on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, will occur near the end of the school day, lunch will be provided to students.  Since the drill on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, will occur during the late morning, lunch will not be served to students on November 25, 2020.

  6. There will be no after school activities for students on either November 24, 2020, or November 25, 2020, other than high school athletic practices.
