Changes to Protocols and Requirements for Graduation & Moving Up Ceremonies
On Wednesday, June 16, 2021, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) issued updated guidance concerning graduations and moving up ceremonies. Based on this guidance, year end academic celebrations no longer require social distancing, health screening, or the collection of information for contact tracing purposes.
Requirements for Parents/Guests
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result are no longer required for parents/guests. However, masks are still required for all unvaccinated individuals, pursuant to federal CDC guidelines.
Requirements for Students
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result are no longer required for students. All 5th grade students and unvaccinated 8th and 12th graders must still wear masks, pursuant to federal CDC guidelines.
Changes to Graduation Procedures
As a result of these changes, the 5th and 8th grade Moving Up Ceremonies and 12th grade Commencement Ceremony to be held on the grounds of Harrison High School will require fewer restrictions and allow for more attendees as follows:
-
5th grade Moving Up Ceremonies: Up to six (6) guests per family
-
8th Grade Moving Up Ceremony: Up to four (4) guests per family
-
HHS Commencement Ceremony: Up to four (4) guests per family
Tickets, Parking & Plans for Inclement Weather
Updated information about tickets, parking, and plans for indoor ceremonies in the event of rain will be emailed to parents on Monday. Please disregard prior instructions for picking up tickets. Cap & gown pick-up for seniors scheduled for Monday is temporarily postponed.
Please note these changes only apply to year end academic ceremonies and do not change the requirements for social distancing, mask wearing, or daily COVID-19 screening for daily school attendance.
Thank you for your patience as we adapt to these changes.
