Impending Heat Wave: Ensuring a Safe and Joyful End to the School Year

Dear Families,

As we enter the final days of the school year, our schools are filled with special activities and opportunities for students to celebrate their accomplishments, reflect on the year, and say goodbye to classmates and teachers before summer begins. While we are closely monitoring the forecast, which calls for very high temperatures over the next several days, we do not believe it is necessary to cancel school at this time. High school Regents and final exams will continue as scheduled and will take place in air-conditioned spaces. Middle school testing will be completed tomorrow during the morning hours, when the building is coolest.  As always, your children’s safety and comfort remain our top priority.

We’ve taken steps to prepare, including cooling our buildings over the weekend and ensuring that large, air-conditioned spaces are available throughout the day. Principals will adjust student locations as needed and are already communicating with families about any changes to outdoor or building-level activities, particularly at the elementary level.

We will continue to monitor conditions carefully and manage the days ahead with thoughtful attention to student well-being. Our goal is for all students to finish the year safely, joyfully, and with a strong sense of connection and celebration as we bring another remarkable school year to a close.

Sincerely,

Louis N. Wool, Ed.D.
