Hands on Learning in Kindergarten

Harrison's kindergarten students at all four elementary schools celebrated fall and explored science, math and English language arts concepts during Apple & Pumpkin Learning Centers.  Our youngest scientists made observations and tested hypotheses by identifying parts of an apple, predicting if apples would sink or float, evaluating differences and similarities between pumpkins and gourds, and describing how different kinds of apples tasted.  After making charts to record the findings and observations from various experiments, students discussed what the data represented. The lesson introduced students to using analytical and communication skills in a scientific environment. Students also created pumpkin patches, read stories about apples and pumpkins, learned new words to describe how apples taste, and used math and reading skills to bake special apple treats.
