Season Review: Winter 2021-22

Celebrating Husky Athletes

Message from the Director of Athletics

Dear Harrison Community,

The Winter 2021-22 season was an exciting one for Harrison Athletics. Our Girls Basketball Team, ranked among the top 25 teams in the state and 3rd in Section 1, won the League Championship. The Girls Winter Track Team persevered and also won the League Championship. Congratulations to both teams and all the Husky athletes who earned individual post season honors.

Harrison High School once again was named a School of Distinction by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, with 90% of our varsity teams earning scholar athlete recognition.  Supporting the success of our student athletes both athletically and academically remains the foundation of our program.

Girls Varsity Basketball Head Coach Louis Kail was named League Coach of the Year. Coach Kail is a true role model, and has had a tremendous impact on the lives of many student athletes. Recently retired, long-time Harrison Varsity Wrestling Coach, Vinnie Nicita was inducted into the Section 1 Hall of Fame for his accomplishments as a coach and leader.  I would like to congratulate and thank Coach Kail and Coach Nicita for their commitment to Harrison's student athletes!

HCSD Athletics is committed to supporting and developing young athletes in our community. Our varsity players and coaches continue to host youth clinics for children who participate in Harrison Recreation programs. The clinics are a great way not only to develop skills, but also to build community among Huskies of all ages. Husky spirit and pride were in full force this winter as we welcomed family and fans to watch games. Harrison cheer teams of all ages also gathered in the Harrison High School gym to send the Varsity Team off to nationals, where they placed 12th  in the nation in their division.

Each of our student athletes approached the winter season with determination, an unyielding commitment to improving skill and endurance, supporting teammates and exemplifying Husky Pride in all they do.  I could not be more proud of all they achieved. Please join me in celebrating our Husky student athletes and coaches.

Sincerely,

Christopher Galano

Modified Athletics at LMK Middle School

The LMK Middle School modified sports teams were back to competing in person this season. More than 175 student athletes competed in modified Wrestling, Ice Hockey, Cheer, Indoor Track, and two Girls and Boys Basketball Teams. Their energy and enthusiasm demonstrated why athletics in schools are so important. Student athletes developed friendships, built and improved skills for a sport they love and enthusiastically competed against neighboring school districts. The Cheer Team took 1st Place at the competition in Scarsdale. The Track team once again competed in meets at Hendrick Hudson and the New York Armory. Wrestling welcomed a new wave of students who had never wrestled before, and created immediate success that will continue to grow the program in the future. The winter season wrapped up with both the girls and boys basketball teams playing  Maroon vs White games at Harrison High School. The winter season was a success and offered athletic experiences to our students as we continue to grow the HCSD athletics programs.
