June 2025 - Volume 11

Dear Harrison Families,

Last week, we came together to honor the remarkable achievements of our students. At the Performing Arts Center at SUNY Purchase, we celebrated the Harrison High School Class of 2025 as they stepped forward into their next chapter. We also recognized our LMK 8th graders at their Moving Up ceremony, and our 5th graders from Harrison Avenue, Parsons, Preston, and Purchase Elementary Schools during celebrations held at HHS.

These milestones are powerful reminders that nothing in our schools happens by chance. They are the result of thoughtful, strategic decisions made to support our students’ growth—proof of what’s possible when they are surrounded by dedicated teachers, engaged families, and a community that believes in them.

I express my gratitude to our principals and leadership team, whose commitment and steady guidance helped make each of these celebrations meaningful for students and their families alike.

The Special Graduation Edition of HCSD Highlights captures the joy and pride of these occasions through photos and videos. Thank you for being essential partners in creating opportunities for every student.

Wishing you a wonderful, restful summer.

Sincerely,
Louis N. Wool, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Harrison Community Raises Awareness and Support for Cancer Research

The Harrison Relay for Life event took place inside the gymnasiums at Harrison High School on a rainy Saturday; however, the weather did not dampen the enthusiasm or commitment of all those who attended to raise awareness of and support for cancer research. The Harrison Relay Club raised more than $10,000 for cancer research this year.  Members of the HHS Relay for Life board Stephanie Reed, Ava Gogliormella, and Dr. Wool addressed members of the Harrison community who attended the event. Activities included games and booths hosted by various HHS student clubs. The Relay for Life evening concluded with a walk to honor those battling or have succumbed to cancer.  This year everyone gathered along a hand-made purple track created in the large gym by the members of the Relay team, Mr. DiGoia and Mr. Radoslovich.

A Heartwarming Performance of The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Students in the District K-5 FASE program brought the popular children’s book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle to life on the Harrison Avenue Elementary School stage. The performance  touched the hearts of the family, friends, teachers and staff in the audience as the students shared their interpretation of growth and transformation. Original artwork, inspired by the book and created by the student performers, created a vibrant and welcoming environment in the auditorium.  It was a truly remarkable and unforgettable experience.

Husky Day: Building Connections & Making New Friends

The HHS gym was buzzing with excited fifth grade students from Parsons, Purchase, Harrison Avenue, and Preston Elementary Schools coming together for Husky Day. Husky Day is an important part of the transition to middle school and offers 5th graders from across our four elementary schools a chance to meet and get to know each other before arriving at LMK in the fall. Students are divided into teams made up of students from each elementary school and participate in activities developed by the District’s K-12 Physical Education and Health faculty and facilitated by student peer leaders from the high school.  Husky Day is more than just a fun day, it is an introduction to the supportive, welcoming community at  LMK!
