Since the announcement last week canceling the external examinations for May 2020, IB has released additional guidelines.
- Students in IB courses are still required to complete all of their internal assessments (IA).
- For courses with on-demand assessments (e.g. the written assignment in English A Literature HL or the written task in English A Language and Literature SL) or externally assessed portfolio work (Group 6 subjects), the requirements have not changed.
- Oral internal assessments in World Languages are being administered through video conferencing during individually scheduled times.
IB has also implemented changes to the way they will calculate final course grades. This year, grades will be based primarily upon internal assessments, further elevating the importance of students’ online classwork. IB will be scoring and calibrating all of these assessments. Teachers have communicated to their students the submission deadlines for any required outstanding work.
IB has assured schools that the Diploma and all scores for completed courses will continue to be recognized by colleges/universities and will be reported to students by July 5, 2020.
We hope this information helps to clarify concerns you may have about the program. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Tyler, the IB DP Coordinator (tylerc@harrisoncsd.org).
