March 24: HHS Principal's Message

Dear HHS Parents,

Harrison High School has proven in the last week to be more than the beautiful building at 255 Union Avenue.   Our high school is a community of students and adults that continues to come together to keep student learning personalized, dynamic, and engaging.  While this new virtual classroom environment is not ideal, we are pushing forward, staying connected and continuing our important work.

As you’ve now experienced first-hand, our faculty has been working tirelessly to support your child’s education.  We are refining our process to eliminate overlaps for live-streamed classes, small group instruction, and extra help sessions. We are striving to maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate the many variables each of us is facing as we are  Learning From Home.  Encourage your child to reach out to teachers to resolve conflicts.  Our faculty is ready to help. Our Director of Guidance, Mrs. Kelly Malczewski, has created a video to support you in Structuring Learning from Home.

While academics continue for your children, so do our supports and services.  Counselors continue their work with students on the college process and course selection for next year, so our students’ academic lives remain on track. Counselors are in contact with students to check in on social-emotional concerns and other school-related challenges.  All members of our mental health team and counseling staff are an email away and can offer virtual meetings with you and your child.  Our Directors of Instruction are a resource if you have curriculum concerns or questions about your child’s classes.   We are constantly monitoring your children. If teachers, counselors, or administrators notice a lack of participation or work, we will reach out to see how we can help.

As we continue to meet as a learning community through the virtual world, know that the faculty, staff, and administration of Harrison High School miss your children and look forward to their learning inside the walls of 255 Union Avenue once again.

Be well and thank you for your continued partnership (now more than ever),

Ms. Kimberly Beukema, Principal
Harrison High School
