Message from the Superintendent

May 24, 2022

Dear Harrison Families,

I am again saddened by a violent school tragedy.  As of this writing, it is confirmed that today, in a Texas elementary school, a gunman targeted children, killing 18 students and a teacher.

Our nation continues to be plagued by violence, and children may experience heightened distress when these unspeakable acts are directed at schools. Our mental health professionals, teachers, and staff are attuned to the ways children may respond to this devastating event and will continue to care for and support your children. Please do not hesitate to contact your principal, school counselor, or school psychologist if your child needs additional support.

We are grateful for the invaluable partnership and constant presence of the Harrison Police Department in our schools, especially in times of crisis.  Police Chief John Vasta immediately reached out to me, and the Harrison Police Department will have an increased presence in all of our schools when students arrive tomorrow and for the foreseeable future.

Even in the face of an uncertain world, every member of our faculty and staff is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming learning environment for your children.

Sincerely,

Louis N. Wool, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
