Our latest District newsletter, Highlights, provides more evidence of the extraordinary accomplishments of our students.
Harrison High School senior Ariella Blackman advanced to the finalist round of the Regeneron Science Talent Search, a first for an HHS student. Senior Neyferson Solis Usme was nominated by the NY State Department of Education for the prestigious Presidential Scholars program. The LMK Science Olympiad Team placed 5th in regional competition and will advance to the state competition. Six students performed with other area musicians in the New York State School Music Association All County Concerts and the entire 5th grade attended a concert by the New York Philharmonic. Strings teacher Charlie Bennett was selected to lead the elementary All-County Orchestra, a well-earned honor for our extraordinary strings educator. The Harrison High School Model Congress team competed and earned top awards at the Harvard Model Congress.

Ariella Blackman Named Regeneron Science Talent Search Finalist
Senior Ariella Blackman was named a Regeneron Science Talent Search Finalist, one of only 40 seniors in the country and the first time a Harrison High School student has advanced to the finalist round. Ariella also placed among the top 300 of the Regeneron Science Talent Search earlier this year. Last year, she was awarded 2nd place and the Air Force Research Laboratory Award in the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair. Senior Neyferson Solis Usme Is Presidential Scholar Nominee
Neyferson Solis Usme is one of 25 high school seniors nominated by the New York State Education Department for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students who represent excellence in education and the promise of greatness in young people. Neyferson is a dedicated student, talented musician, varsity athlete and active member of the community. He is “grateful for the opportunity to be considered by a program that looks at who the student is as an all-around person.” Read More
LMK Science Olympiad Team Places 5th in Regional Competition
The LMK Middle School Science Olympiad team earned a 5th place at the Lower Hudson Valley Science Olympiad and will advance to the New York State competition. Science Olympiad is an opportunity for students to challenge themselves in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through various levels of team-based, collaborative competitions. HHS Model Congress Competes at Harvard Tournament
The Harrison High School Model Congress competed against over 80 schools from all over the country at the Harvard Model Congress. Twenty Harrison High School students read briefings about important issues facing society and developed meaningful ways to address them through legislation. Evie Rabin and Alexander Schwartz earned Best Delegate in their committees and each brought back a gavel.
Harrison Students Perform in All-County Concerts
Six students were selected for the Elementary and Intermediate All-County Band and Orchestra and are among the best young musicians in Westchester County. Students earn the seat based on their outstanding NYSSMA Solo performances. Harrison's students include Diana Millard, Jonathan Myung, Amelia Gilmore, Rio Yazawa, Sophie Baker, Miles Yan.
Mr. Bennett Leads All-County Orchestra
Strings teacher Charlie Bennett was selected to lead the elementary All-County Orchestra, a recognition of his well-earned reputation as an extraordinary strings educator.
Don't miss the District Strings Extravaganza, a celebration of all HCSD string musicians, on March 21st @ 7 pm at Harrison High School Performing Arts Center.
5th Grade Students Visit NY Philharmonic at Lincoln Center
Fifth grade students from all four Harrison elementary schools attended the NY Philharmonic’s “Young People’s Concert" at Lincoln Center. Students learned about how the orchestra works, and listened to classic works from famous composers along with modern pieces from contemporary composers. Harrison's music teachers arranged for students to meet with musicians after the concert to discuss what it takes to be a performer with one of the world’s premiere orchestras.
