Message from the Director of Athletics

Dear Harrison Community,

Winter 2022-23 was another successful season for the Harrison Huskies. Three of our teams earned the title of League Champions: Girls Basketball, Boys Swimming, and Boys Winter Track. After an intense semi-final sectional game and buzzer-beater win, the Girls Basketball Team advanced to the section finals and remained determined until the very end.

I am incredibly proud of our student athletes who arrive at each game, meet, and match ready to compete at the highest level. Our Husky athletes understand that preparation is only part of what it takes to succeed; respect for teammates and opponents, coaches and officials is equally important. They represent our community with tenacity and character every time they put on a Husky uniform.

Once again this season, our school community showed up to support and cheer for their classmates. The energy and school spirit booming from the stands were amazing and reflected the camaraderie and community that is Harrison. I have shared a picture at the end of this letter that captures their spirit and Husky Pride!

Three of our graduating seniors have committed to universities to continue their sports at the Division 1 level. LMK Middle School students were introduced to what it means to be a Husky athlete as members of the modified teams.

Winter '23 Season Review

3 Harrison athletes will compete at NCAA Division 1 universities. Mateo Ponce Ocampo will play soccer at Georgetown University, Katrina Torelli will run on the Cross Country team at Bucknell University and Nick Reed will play football at the University of Buffalo.

Girls Basketball

Record: 19-5

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS, SECTION 1 CLASS A FINALIST

Scholar Athlete Team

The Girls Basketball Team had a stellar season. The team earned the overall number 1 seed in the Section 1 Class A Girls Basketball Tournament with a record of 16-4 and won the League Title. During the postseason the Huskies won 3 games landing them in the Section 1 Class A Championship game. The team came up short but represented the Harrison Community with great pride.

Boys Swimming

Record: 8-1

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Scholar Athlete Team

The Boys Swim Team wrapped up the regular season with a 47-45 win over Woodlands, securing the League Title. They finished the season with a final record of 8-1, and undefeated 7-0 in the League. The team improved their skills in the water throughout this season, but the highlight was their spirit and character. They are supportive of one another and other teams, cheering for each other and other teams, always offering words of support and encouragement. Our captains were outstanding role models for the younger teammates, demonstrating genuine sportsmanship.

UCA Regional Champion - Small DII Traditional Varsity & Small DII Varsity Game Day

UCA Nationals - Small DII Varsity Game Day - 3rd Place

Scholar Athlete Team

Varsity Cheer posted a successful competitive season. They competed at the National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC ), the pinnacle of cheerleading competitions for high school cheerleaders across the country. As reigning champions in their division the team put everything they had into perfecting technique, execution, and presentation of their most difficult routines to date. The team advanced to the Semis 1 round, and ultimately took 3rd place in the National tournament among 1,125 teams from 33 states.

Boys Winter Track

LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Scholar Athlete Team

The Boys Winter Track team ended the season as League Champions! The team saw outstanding development across the board and contributions from athletes across all grades. Our team was led by Individual League Champions, Aaron Malen (300m Dash), Sean Valle (600m Run), and the 4x200 Relay team, Aaron Malen, Nick Reed, Joe Miele, and Sean Valle. Athletes continued late into the championship season with Chris Eskrett competing at the Freshman Nationals.

Girls Winter Track

Scholar Athlete Team

Our Girls Track Team was led by a strong group of seniors who have grown year after year. The team finished a close 2nd at our League championship led by Individual League Champions Kyangchat Kapio(55m), Ami Goble(High Jump), Taylor Hermann(Long Jump), and Amelia Amaral (Weight Throw). Two school records were broken - Kyangchat Kapio, 55m Dash (7.47 sec) and Ami Goble High Jump record (5 ft). Katrina Torelli continued her hugely successful Husky career by qualifying for the NY State Championship and finishing the season as the top ranked 600m runner in Westchester County. Katrina Torelli, Kyangchat Kapio, and Ami Goble qualified for the National Championship in their respective events.

Boys Bowling

Record: 13-1

Scholar Athlete Team

Posting a 13-1 record, the boys bowling season was a success with the largest team rosters in recent years. The only loss came early in the season against first place Yonkers, a team of mostly seniors. However, Harrison’s boys refined their skills, worked hard and pulled out a win at the next match against Yonkers. The Huskies were the only team to beat Yonkers and held firmly in second place throughout the season. Junior Captain George Roggiero qualified for sectionals as an individual holding an average of 180 or higher.

Girls Bowling

Scholar Athlete Team

Record: 8-6

The Girls Bowling Team was a wonderful group of athletes who progressed throughout the whole season. Veteran players set the bar for determination and hard work; every bowler on the team broke their own individual record by the end of the season.

Boys Basketball

Scholar Athlete Team

Record: 9-12

Boys Basketball finished the season with a 9-12 record. A young team led by two underclass guards, Joe Crupi and Matt McCoy, the boys demonstrated great determination and improvement throughout the season. This was evident versus a very tough Eastchester team when they found themselves down 22-4 early in the game. With two starters out, the team stepped up beginning with great bench play from Jake Cabral and Ethan Powell, and the Huskies came back to win 58-53. The Huskies ultimately lost in the playoffs in overtime to a strong Mahopac team. The future is bright for this young team.

Wrestling

Record: 9-5-4

A young team, the Husky wrestlers improved throughout the season. Each student athlete pushed to be the best version of themselves at meets and during practices. Freshman Sienna Cozzali made history reaching the state finals and taking 2nd place in the first-ever NYS Girls Wrestling Invitational. The future for the team is bright and the team will continue to work and condition in the off-season.

Ice Hockey

Record: 9-9-2

Scholar Athlete Team

The Titans season had ups and downs, but the boys persevered on and off the ice, playing hard from the first puck drop to the final buzzer of our playoff game. A highlight of the season was posting wins in the last four games to earn a home seed in the first round of the playoffs.

Modified Winter Season: Foundation Building & Teamwork

Modified Athletics continues to grow and thrive. More than 180 LMK Middle School student athletes participated in Basketball, Wrestling, Cheer, Hockey, and Winter Track and Field. Students focused on developing skills and learned how to become part of a team. The modified program is the foundation of our High School athletics program; and coaches and players focused on development throughout the season. The LMK athletics winter season came to a close with the annual Maroon versus White basketball games hosted at HHS in front of friends, family, coaches and high school students. The future looks bright for our young Huskies!

Harrison Students Commit to Division 1 Athletics Schools

Congratulations to three Harrison athletes who signed commitment letters and will continue to compete in their sports at NCAA Division 1 universities.
